Two WCHS Dataseam Apprentices, Carson Hill and Delaney Shumate, were part of twenty Dataseam Registered Apprentices from nine Kentucky school districts who recently participated in a two-day technology training as part of the U.S. Department of Labor-approved Registered Apprenticeship for Information Technology program sponsored by Dataseam.
By attending this two-day training, Carson and Delaney earned 30 Apple iMac computers for Webster County Schools, valued at $45,000.00. Each also earned an Apple iPad and an Apple Pencil for personal use.
The Dataseam Registered Apprenticeship is a two-year skilled trades program for high school juniors and seniors. Participants completing the program can successfully enter the workforce directly upon high school graduation, pursuing meaningful, family-sustaining employment.
Upon successful completion of the program, students receive a U.S. DOL Journeyworker certificate for Information Technology Support Specialist. Since 2018, Dataseam’s proven workforce model has expanded through competitive funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission, the U.S. Department of Labor, and Kentucky General Assembly legislative appropriation.
Registered Apprentices collectively earned over $225,000 in new classroom technology resources to support innovation and digital learning in their home districts while adding to the statewide DataseamGrid driving structure-based drug design for the University of Louisville’s Brown Cancer Center.
