Legal Notice: General Fund Tax Levy

The Webster County Board of Education is proposing a general fund tax levy of 56.6 cents on real property and 56.6 cents on personal property.

The General Fund tax levied in fiscal year 2026 was 57 cents on real property and 57 cents on personal property and produced revenue of $4,881,581.62.

The proposed General Fund tax rate of 56.6 cents on real property and 56.6 cents on personal property is expected to produce $4,736,751.38. Of this amount, $911,935.95 is from new and personal property. The compensating tax for 2027 is 54.5 cents on real property and 54.5 cents on personal property and is expected to produce $4,561,006.19.

The proposed rate is expected to generate more revenue than received in the preceding year. The general areas to which revenue of $237,895 above 2026 revenue is to be allocated are as follows: Cost of collections, $8,326; Instruction, $229,569.

This information is published pursuant to KRS 160.470. The proposed tax rate is not subject to recall under KRS 132.017.

The General Assembly has required publication of this advertisement and information contained herein.

A new form needs to be completed each school year to remain in the program, but if you have already completed a form for the 2026-27 school year, you do not need to sign up again.

School Smiles accepts Medicaid and private insurance and offers self-pay rates for those who may be uninsured.

Character Trait of the Month: Responsibility

Students will learn what it means to be responsible and how responsible choices can make a positive difference at school, at home, and in our community.

Responsibility means doing what you are expected to do, being accountable for your choices, and following through on your commitments. Throughout September, our students will have opportunities to practice responsibility in their classrooms, on the playground, on the bus, and throughout their school communities.

We encourage families to continue the conversation at home by talking with children about ways they can demonstrate responsibility each day. When we take responsibility for our actions and choices, we help create stronger schools and stronger communities.

Webster County Schools Leadership in Action!

KSBA Region 2 Meeting

This week, Superintendent Michael Gooch and Board of Education members Amanda Coomes, Melony Hobgood, and Venita Murphy represented our Trojan family at the KSBA (KY School Board Association) Region 2 meeting in Hopkinsville!

They joined educational leaders from across Western Kentucky to collaborate on community engagement strategies and talk directly with state legislators about supporting our schools. Attending board members successfully fulfilled 1.25 hours of yearly, state-mandated training credits, exploring administration practices and state educational policy shifts. In addition, Venita Murphy serves as a Director-at-Large on the KSBA Board of Directors.

This event gave our district leadership an opportunity to engage directly with area state legislators and peers from Region 2 school districts. Thank you to our district leadership team for their strong advocacy for Webster County students!

Webster County Chamber of Commerce

Congratulations to Brandi Burnett, Webster County Schools Director of Finance (first row, second from right), for serving as one of the Founding Board Members of the Webster County Chamber of Commerce! 🎉

They have worked hard to build the Chamber and strengthen Webster County. We are excited that Brandi is a part of this important work!

WCMS & WCHS Afterschool Programs Begin Monday

APEX and APEX 2.0 are 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC), federally funded grant programs that provide students with learning opportunities beyond the regular school day.

They offer a variety of activities, including academic support, homework assistance, and hands-on enrichment experiences that build on classroom learning while helping students develop skills they can use, such as financial literacy, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), nutrition & healthy living, art & media, college & career readiness, and more!

Bus transportation is provided Monday–Thursday to:

Clay Elementary
Providence Elementary
Sebree Elementary

Transportation to Slaughters Elementary is available as needed. Buses begin loading at 5:00 P.M.

Students do not have to attend every day and are welcome to participate when they can.

🚍 The Second Chance Express is BACK! 🚍

We’re excited to offer the Second Chance Express again to students in grades 7–12!

The Second Chance Express gives students in grades 7–12 another way to get to school when transportation challenges arise - helping them miss minutes instead of a full day.

Last year, around 45 families benefited from the Second Chance Express, and we’re excited to continue providing this support to our students and families!

The Second Chance Express is made possible through our Stronger Connections Grant.
